SAP Active Component Framework (ACF) is a client-side integration framework from SAP AG that enables browser-based SAP applications to interact securely with desktop resources and peripherals. It provides a controlled bridge between SAP UIs (such as Web Dynpro and CRM WebClient UI) and local capabilities, helping organizations close gaps between web applications and the desktop.

Key capabilities include:

  • Digital signing and certificate-based operations
  • Local and specialized printing (including barcodes and labels)
  • Access to scanners and other peripherals
  • Managed file upload/download and limited file system interactions
  • Launch and handover to desktop applications (for example, Microsoft Office) from SAP processes

ACF is delivered as an installable runtime that hosts signed components and enforces security policies, version control, and communication with SAP back-end systems. Because it relies on legacy browser plug-in technologies (such as ActiveX/NPAPI), its use is limited to specific platform and browser combinations. Many customers now transition these scenarios to modern alternatives offered by SAP, including browser-native approaches and updated desktop integration options. For current support status and migration guidance, consult the relevant SAP Notes and product documentation.

SAP Active Component Framework is developed by SAP AG. The most popular version of this product among our users is 7.0. The name of the program executable file is saplogon.exe.
